Auckland University (web application)
Auckland University required an interactive web app that enticed new students to get prepared for University. The look and feel was extremely different to that of the University's brand palette, with a posterised design aesthetic to ensure it was fresh, engaging and didn't feel like another stale 'preachy' educational piece of correspondence.
Our initial process was to develop two visual mood boards with elements that could see the execution of this tool go in two very different directions in terms of photography, illustrative elements, font styles and overall concept of engagement (or communicative 'hook') which saw the University have two very distinct options to choose from.
Following this approval we mapped out all components throughout the 'app' in exact detail across a series of wireframes. This ensured the usability of the tool was seamlessly considered and aided the user to reach their end goal through a series of fun steps rather than laborious ones. It had to feel intuitive and helpful as opposed to complicated and lengthy.
The use of parallax scroll from start to finish allowed us to embed visual background components that were designed to help communicate and support each question, this reduced the level of animation required but gave it plenty of flavour and movement without blowing the budget.
The end result was either a printable 'to do' list so you could come back to your action points later, or the session was stored using Cookies so you could review the interactive version of the results at a later date on the same device.
