LEADING WITH EMPATHY

Picture
I am authentically driven by the empowerment and success of the talent around me. I encourage and mentor however I can, both personally and professionally - but I want to do much more.

I'm currently reading Plan B - a novel penned by Sheryl Sandberg and Adam Grant. You might have crossed paths with Sheryl's previous work, Lean In?  If you have read neither, please do!

Plan B is solemn and upsetting at times. But more so it is inspirational and incredibly uplifting.

I want to work with organisations who genuinely value their people. Where they are seen as the ever-changing humans that they are. Individuals who embody the same values and whose unrelenting drive supports you, as a leader, execute on your vision and your goals - which quite often are personal. If you think of them as any less, are you really a leader?

We are human, we continually face challenge. We might face devastation, set-back, physical and mental strain, exhaustion. But we too experience joy, success and unwavering support from our peers around us. Recognising this, making allowances for it,  planning for it with empathy and creating a pathway that enables us all to be  our very best, whenever possible - THAT is powerful work.

Plan B has shifted my own dynamic and reignited a professional driver within me.

This book will undoubtedly make me a better leader.

HI, I'M CLAIRE LOUISE

Picture
I am a professional woman in my mid 30's. And that's all I'll say about that, because neither of those facts define me. I have opinions, but I am not overly opinionated.

I am driven most by helping others succeed. And so to turn to words to do so seems natural to me. I tend to be interested in business, in art, in new methodologies and in music. I like to share, but as I say, mostly I like to encourage.

I don't think anyone would say I am black and white. And in opening a more public forum of my thought, please don't think I'll get it right all the time. If I'm having an off day and I offend you, know that I am only human. As are we all.

Feedback welcome and consumption of any learnings encouraged.

SHARING CONTENT AUTHENTICALLY

Picture
So, I've been thinking. How do you impart knowledge authentically?

I think this is a shared opinion for most (?), but blogs are becoming online diaries. Rather than sharing something of value, most are simply thinking of their own views in life, and regurgitating words (or images) that they think might stick. And it's fun writing them and saying hey "see what I do, see me"......and that's enough.

But given my communicative background, I ALWAYS think first about others and my audience. Don't get me wrong, I follow many great blogs that I am inspired by, but it's becoming diluted in a channel that is boundless.

So as I say, I've been thinking, how do I impart knowledge authentically. So to define my driver and my audience is probably the best place to start.

I want you to know that I will always have a theme! I want you to know I will always aim to gather my thoughts around that. And while I will likely build on themes as I go - because content is endless - the themes I am drawn to for now are leadership, design thinking and values in business.

I want you to know you will be helping me explore them, rather than me being an expert in it all.

Keep listening. I'd love that, and I'd appreciate that greatly x
